Our mission is to cultivate, inspire and support the arts within our community.

West Orange Arts Council Poetry Workshop group is comprised of poets and others with a love of poetry. This group is led by Peggy Vassallo and meets on the 2nd Saturday of each month. In a welcoming and productive environment, we  read, write and share works in progress, with the goal of improving our craft. Special readings, open to the public, are held at least once a year.

Why Poetry is Necessary -  Roger Housden,  Author, Speaker, Writing Coach
There’s a headstone in a Long Island graveyard — the one where Jackson Pollock is buried — that I think encapsulates the value and necessity of poetry in a world of sorrows. It says,  “Artists and poets are the raw nerve ends of humanity. By themselves they can do little to save humanity. Without them there would be little worth saving.” -Huffington Post Blog 06/26/2011 04:53 pm ET | Updated Aug 26, 2011  Read more...
