    WEST ORANGE, NJ — The West Orange Arts Center will host several art opportunities and exhibits during July and August.

    On Saturday, July 8, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Heidi Sussman will hold a one-day workshop on hot and cold wax techniques for photo enhancement. Admission is charged. For more information, contact Sussman at

    From July 12 through Aug. 26, the “iPadology/ABstract ImPRESSions” exhibit will run, featuring Antoinette Ellis-Williams, Ellen Foto, Fran McClain, Abeni Mussa and Mansa K. Mussa. There will be an opening reception on Wednesday, July 12, from 7 to 9 p.m.

    The West Orange Arts Council presents Creative Connections on Wednesday, July 19, from 7 to 9 p.m.

    The West Orange Arts Council will hold a board meeting on Thursday, July 20, from 7 to 9 p.m.

    An “iPadology” workshop will be Saturday, Aug. 12, from noon to 3 p.m. Admission is charged.

    WEST ORANGE, NJ — Visitors to the West Orange Arts Center will have the chance to experience the work of West Orange High School’s Advanced Placement art students in a new exhibit that runs now through April 23.

    The exhibit, which will hold a special reception with the artists Friday, March 31, features 40 of the best pieces from the AP program’s eight students: Gabe Andrade, Elika Burton, Santi Butler, Aira Dolfo, Mariel Go, Julian Lloyd, Katie Meyerson and Victoria Sullivan. And while the artists may be young, teacher Heather Young said their talent is immense. Young told the West Orange Chronicle that she believes anyone who sees their work will be impressed.

    “I think that people are going to be blown away by how professional they are, how talented they are,” Young said in a March 16 phone interview. “It’s just incredible what they can do.”  Read more...

    Pop Up Photo Exhibit -Blurred Lines - A multi-exposure photographic adventure by Bengt Erik Åkerblom - Sat, Oct 29 - Sat, Nov 5, All day

    Layer upon layer of ever moving images are captured via multi exposure, in-camera and blend into brush like textures. Nothing is photoshopped or manipulated with filters. Only basic photo parameters are modified. Presented in a unique format, with no actual prices on the prints. Says Akerblom, "I once went to a restaurant in London that had no prices on the menu. They said "just pay what you think it's worth, whatever you can afford, we'd be happy with that” “I would be happy with that too. Just pay what you think it’s worth, whatever you can afford."

    Frames are a fixed price but are not required to purchase. You may buy a print at whatever price you feel it is worth, whatever you can afford.

    The West Orange Arts Council Celebrated its' 1st Anniversary at the new West Orange Arts Center at 551 Valley Rd, West Orange, NJ.  This event was free and open to the public.   They had a great turnout and offered door prizes, Live Entertainment by Adam Gustavson & his accompaniment, and lots of food and beverages for all to enjoy.

    One hundred years of a family's art will open at the West Orange Art Council Gallery on Saturday, July 23rd and will continue through August 27th. The exhibit will feature works by both Jan and Jann Carden, as well as the art and fascinating artifacts of Margery Brown - Jann's mother - painter, writer, and illustrator, Ellen Carden - Jan's mother - painter and poet, and Virginia Harr - Jan's Great Aunt (1878-1960) - landscape artist, watercolorist, and painter of fine china. The opening gala will take place on Saturday, July 23 from 5 - 8 p.m. The WOAC gallery, located at 551 Valley Road, West Orange, NJ. Gallery hours are 12 - 4, every Saturday
