Fenelon is well known in the community for creating the vibrant mural that adorns the exterior wall of the West Orange Arts Center. Originally completed in 2010, the mural has become a beloved local landmark and a symbol of the town’s commitment to public art.
For the Art of the Game exhibition, Fenelon has designed a soccer ball featuring his signature artistic style, drawing inspiration from the colorful imagery and themes found in his iconic mural. Visitors to the exhibition will immediately recognize the visual connection between the soccer ball artwork and the mural that has welcomed guests to the Arts Center for more than a decade.
Members of the West Orange Arts Council are especially grateful for Fenelon’s continued support and participation. They also take pride in the remarkable condition of his mural, which remains bright and vibrant even after sixteen years of exposure to the elements. The enduring quality of the artwork stands as a testament to both Fenelon’s talent and the lasting impact of public art in the community.
Patricia Mitrano, Chair of the West Orange Arts Council, said, “The Art of the Game exhibition celebrates the intersection of sports, creativity, and community engagement, and Fenelon’s contribution is sure to be one of the highlights of the event. Residents and visitors alike are encouraged to stop by and experience his latest work while celebrating the artistic spirit that continues to thrive in West Orange.”
Fenelon’s artistic impact extends well beyond West Orange. In 2024, he was commissioned by Reynolds Asset Management to create a large site-specific mural installation for The Mural, a new luxury apartment community located in the Valley Arts District of Orange, New Jersey. The project was designed to celebrate the neighborhood’s rich artistic heritage while creating a welcoming environment for residents and visitors alike.
Selected from among numerous candidates, Fenelon designed and painted a vibrant mural that now serves as a centerpiece of the building’s lobby. The artwork was created specifically for the space and was intended to evoke feelings of peace, optimism, and community. During the grand opening celebration, project developers praised Fenelon’s ability to blend contemporary design with the cultural history of the Valley Arts District, creating a work that honors the past while looking toward the future.
The commission further demonstrates why Fenelon is considered one of the region’s most accomplished mural artists. His public art installations can be found throughout Essex County, including West Orange, Orange, South Orange, and Montclair. His ability to create colorful, engaging works that stand the test of time has made him a sought-after artist for both public and private projects. The continued vibrancy of his mural at the West Orange Arts Center, along with major commissions such as The Mural apartment complex, reflects the lasting quality and community value of his work.
